Zest

Zest, passion, interest, or obsession...Me and my sis were talking about what careers we would want to do the for the rest of our lives. She happens to be passionate about helping deaf people, so she is learning ASL (American sign language). She wants to make this her future, besides making money to support herself, she will be helping people, (which I might add is one of her greatest talents). I'm in a place of indecisiveness on what to do with my career. I already took a break from school, so I can step back and look at what I need to do. I have some talent in writing, plus I love to write. I just never take the time to do it, unless assigned at school. So, hmm, the dilemma of moving to a place that I feel comfortable learning to write, as well as having something interesting to write about is what is boggling my mind at this moment.

I think ASL is really cool. I would however caution someone going into that field to also get there elementary education degree also. the reason for this is that I know several ASL interpreters who are poorer than dirt. This is because there is not steady work for theseindividuals. Someone looking to pursue this career could make a decent living if they also taught school or at least had that option to fall back on. Of course someone who knows ASL could also go into audioligy and then work as a professional in a doctor type setting while also utilizing the ASL talents.

That said; one of the most wasteful things people who go to college do is fool around trying to decide on a major and then they are in school for eternity and spend more money than needed. There is no perfect career or major so all I can say is choose something that interests you and run with it. Nothing says you can't do something else once you have your degree. The degree will open other doors to you that you may not know existed.

I agree with the floundering on choosing a major. It is something I wish I knew before I started school, but I think there is so much emphasis on career that people forget what their souls are telling them, so they keep trying to be a computer engineer, instead of an outdoorsy type person per se. Trust me, the nagging feeling of doing what you love (within reason), never goes away. Definitely getting the degree is the first step.

HAHA very funny anonymous. Interpreters are in EXTREME need and make some pretty good money. I'm not going into education, get over it.

You are sweet to add that Desert Girl :) Thank you!
